Reacting to the Best of Times- How do you do it?

Oct 04, 2021

As a human race, we live in the most amazing times. There is so much by way of technology, communication, services, and friendship - right at our fingertips. We can be anybody we want to be at any given time. When is the last time you took a moment and asked yourself… What do I want to be today? Better yet… Who do I want to be right now?

I know some of you are thinking- Who even has time to think about that? That is what’s so tricky. While we live in the greatest of times, this time of expansive opportunity comes at a cost we don’t always see. Life runs at such a fast pace that we live life in a completely reactionary state. Have you ever heard the word Entropy? Entropy - is a theory in the law of thermodynamics that energy in any organized form will eventually break down to a neutral state. Hot coffee will cool to a neutral temperature. Food will begin to decompose into carbons.

The same goes for life - any type of organized effort or asset that is left unattended for some time, will eventually find its way to chaos. If you don’t drive your car, its ability to function properly declines and it will eventually stop working. Your immaculate kitchen (yep- I know you’re on top of it!) would eventually get dusty and cobwebby if you don’t stay on top of it. Your mad car singing skills would wither if you didn’t practice every day… you get it.

Well… I think we all get that concept - because we live our lives battling it every day. With all of this abundance in life - we have A LOT to keep from going into chaos. Maintaining our friend connections, cleaning our homes, keeping a steady paycheck, paying bills, raising kids, helping out parents, and yes- deciding what to eat and how guilty it will make you feel when you finally give in.

So naturally, with so many things going to chaos, we live in this reactive mode and watch for signs of each part of our life starting to reach a level of chaos that we just need to fix. Hence the rise in anxiety, depression, and cognitive overload (yep - even the phrase triggers it - thinking too much!) It’s downright exhausting!

Let’s go back to the beginning of this article.

Who do you want to be today?

Who do you want to be right now?

For my next couple of posts, we’re going to talk a lot about stepping back and realizing that living reactively is chaos all its own. And that as we step back and are mindful of each of our actions - we can slow down. We can get hours back in the day. We can find our inner peace and our outer purpose. We can find joy in that journey.

Open Eating is one of the first steps to doing that. Why? Because none of the other stuff exists if you don’t have your health. If you don’t provide your body the fuel it needs, there are no friend connections, there is no paycheck. Giving your body the nutrients it needs will help you navigate the rest.

We’ll be navigating through all of the barriers that stop us from achieving this:

-    I don’t have time

-    Healthy is pricey

-    I don’t know how to do it or where even to start

-    It takes too long

-    I’ve tried so many diets, but it just isn’t for me, I don’t want to fail again

-    It’s not worth giving up my favorite foods- the quality of life over the quality of food

There are so many more, and they are 100% REAL - I get it because I face them every day myself. But do you know… you truly can be anything you want today; anybody you want today. What if today ended with you being encouraged, hopeful, energetic, and feeling like you could take back your life, balance it, and no longer be in that reactive space whacking the chaos mole every time it pops?

Take the time to know your barriers. Let’s break them. Let’s bring YOU back to your life! Every day is yours, and the best part is- you don’t have to go it alone!
