What Exactly Does Weigh Loss Buy You?
Almost every client that I work with has one major focus… Weight Loss. It makes sense. When we gain weight, our body senses things just aren’t the way they used to be. Energy is lower, joints and muscles hurt more, and the brain fog starts…
Hollywood and marketing messages don’t help- they play on those emotions and send visuals of dolled-up, photoshopped bodies of perfection that simply don’t exist without the help of surgical intervention and layers of makeup. They send messages that you can only look good if… (insert insecurity here).
We all want to “feel” as good as we did when we were XXX lbs. That’s when things were better right? That way we can feel energetic… we can feel pretty… can feel good again.
And, as a result, people believe that weight is the culprit. We innately know that we are good people who are trying our best. And it’s that darn weight… “if I could just get it off.”
This is something I’ve really put to the test and challenged every one of my clients on. What really does weight loss get you? What if the weight wasn’t the issue? What if you could have things like energy, clarity of mind, fun, and confidence in your body even before you reached that “magic” weight? What if that “magic” weight wasn’t really as good as you COULD have it?
At this point, I get blank stares… girl- are you crazy! YES! I am 100% crazy, but I’m also 100% right.
Weight is not the problem. Weight is not conspiring against you… your weight is a way that your body communicates what it needs. It’s neither good NOR bad. It’s like a telephone. Telephones are just a tool- they are not good or bad. They can be used to do good or bad things, but the telephone itself is just a plain, ordinary, amoral tool.
The same is with your weight…It’s just a tool. Therefore... let’s use that tool to do something awesome! What is your body communicating with you? If your weight feels off balance (either too little or too much) it is telling you that something in your life is out of balance so that it can’t work the way it is intended to.
What is the purpose of our body? To protect us and give us the highest quality of life possible.
What if you didn’t have to fight your body? What if your body was your ally… your best friend, and you could trust everything it said?
Weight is excess energy- it is stored in the body for typically 3 purposes:
1. It is constantly under stress, so your flight or fight hormones are running the show, which means that nutrients cannot be processed properly, so they are stored for a calmer time.
2. It is actually nutrient deficiency- Did you know that many nutrients require the help of other nutrients to be used properly in the body? Take for example iron. Iron is a key nutrient for creating red blood cells and improving energy levels. However, if Vitamin B or Copper is low, the iron cannot be used properly. The same is with sugars and fats, If they cannot be processed properly with fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, they will get stored in the body until those nutrients are replenished in the body.
3. There is an underlying chronic condition your body is focused on protecting you from, so nutrient processing becomes secondary to protecting your body, resulting in inflammation and weight gain.
All these manifestations are your body telling you something is out of balance. So, what is the remedy? Why getting in the balance of course!
This is what Open-Eating is all about. It is about learning the signals your body is sending about what it needs.
What is great about Open Eating is that you are encouraged to EAT MORE! Increasing variety and nutrients in the diet help to bring in that balance. I have hundreds of simple tips for bringing nutritious balance (not like breakfast cereal) into your life. (Check out our Facebook page!) Choosing 1 or 2 of these and making them a habit? They will start you on the path. You will begin to feel more energy- even before you reach that longed-for weight loss number.
You’ll begin to see the benefits almost immediately. And because those benefits are so great, they become great habits in a heartbeat. Then you can pick 1 or 2 more… and bring it even more in balance. You’ll begin to feel your body thanking you!
Soon enough, you’ll notice that you’re on track for more than you bargained for. Your weight will begin to balance out too. You’ll notice a steady weight loss, your body will tell you what that “real” non-Hollywood weight is, and you’ll find a quality of life you didn’t even know was possible.
Why can I say this with confidence? I’ve been there. I’ve done it. I can’t count the number of people where this has changed lives… just through simple steps.
Are you ready to get started?
Cheers!
